The following scriptures demonstrate that there
were some things that Paul was convinced of (Knew), and that he didn't want us ignorant of either.
If he didn't want
us ignorant of these things then knowing these things is possible.
Also the following verses best represent the
dispensational viewpoint and also refute such false teachings as Eternal Insecurity, Preterism, Catholicism and any
works oriented salvation, Jehovah's Witnesses, Soul Sleepers etc.
The following verses reflect what a dispensationalist
believes and would use to refute the false teachings I mentioned above.
I have been condemned by many for knowing things
rather than just hoping that I am right.
Here are some things God does not want us ignorant of.
These are
all subjects that we have discussed and debated.
1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they
might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they BEING IGNORANT
of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness
of God. (Romans 10)
Conclusion: Works Oriented Salvation refuted
For I WOULD NOT, brethren, that ye should
be IGNORANT of this MYSTERY, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel,
until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel SHALL be saved: as it is written, There shall come out
of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, WHEN I shall take
away their sins. (Romans 11)
Preterism refuted, Delay taught.
"Moreover, brethren, I would NOT THAT YE SHOULD
BE IGNORANT, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses
in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for
they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. " (1 Corinthians 10)
Karaite Jews refuted:
Jesus in the OT.
" Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I WOULD NOT HAVE YOU IGNORANT." (1 Corinthians 12)
Understanding
Spiritual Gifts possible.
"13 But I would not have you to be IGNORANT, brethren, concerning them which are asleep,
that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also
which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive
and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from
heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and
so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words." (1 Thessalonians 4)
Couple
with 1 Corinthians 15:51,52, we see that this is another mystery that should coincide with the other mysteries during the delay.
But,
beloved, BE NOT IGNORANT of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as
one day. 9 THE LORD IS NOT SLACK concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not
willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in
the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the
earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved,
what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of
the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" (2 Peter
3)
Refuting Preterism, The delay is God's plan to save more people and the end of the world will be literal and unmistakeable.
Paul
unlike the JW's was confident that when we die though our bodies remain in the grave, until the rapture, we will be present with
the Lord.
'We are CONFIDENT, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.'
(2 Corinthians 5:8)
Then there is Paul's confidence in Christ.
"Being CONFIDENT of this very thing, that he
which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6)
Paul commends
Abraham for being persuaded of some things as well.
"He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was
strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And BEING FULLY PERSUADED that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness." (Romans 4)
AND
Speaking of Meat and Holy days.
"Let
us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to
fall in his brother's way. 14 I know, and am PERSUADED BY THE LORD JESUS, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but
to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. (Romans 14)
Nothing can separate us from God's
Love.
"For I am PERSUADED, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present,
nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which
is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38)
AND
"For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless
I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am PERSUADED that HE is able to keep that which I have committed unto
him against that day." (2 Timothy 1:12)
Though Paul gave a scathing warning in the following chapter he ends with,
"But,
beloved, we are PERSUADED better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. 10 For God is not
unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the
saints, and do minister." (Hebrews 6)
Finally, Paul speaks of the saints:
"These all died in faith, not having
received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were PERSUADED of them, and embraced them, and confessed that
they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth." (Hebrews 11)
So my advice to you is be confident and persuaded of these
things as well.
